San Antonio

We said our goodbye's to Phillip and David at the Royal Street Courtyard B & B on Sunday morning.  Sad to leave them and the great time we had in New Orleans, but a new adventure awaited!  Hit the road after breakfast and drove along I10 for about 6 hours or so.  We entered the Lone Star State around 3 pm.

Weather was still amazing!!!!!  Hoping it stays this warm while we are in San Antonio.  We decided to stop in Houston, Texas for the night.  Nothing exciting here.  Just a nice place to sleep and rest up before driving the 3 hours to San Antonio.  We ended up getting to San Antonio on Monday at about noon.  Couldn't check into our hotel yet, so we decided to walk to the Alamo.  Cool.

Apparently, Phil Collins is a huge Alamo fan.  Rumours had it that he might show up for the 176th anniversary, but we didn't see him:(.  For those of you who don't know, I absolutely love Phil Collins!!!!!!!

After our Alamo visit, we decided to go on a Riverwalk Boat tour.  A great way to get an overview of the system and to see some great sights.  Here are some pics from that tour :

And then some pics from our walk along the riverwalk before lunch!

Casey really does have a fascination with birds/ducks!!!!

Time for lunch!  We chose Casa Rio.  It is a Mexican Restaurant on the riverwalk that has been around since 1946!  Great food and a great view!  We had tortillas and salsa to start.  Casey had a tasting plate and I had chicken tacos.  Very good!!!!

After lunch we drove out to see some of the Missions.  The missions are famous for being enclosed communities surrounded by fortified walls to protect the people who lived inside the walls.  They were run by the Fransican's.  There are 5 of them.  We saw 2, plus the Alamo.

And then a drive through the King Edward District to see some beautiful homes.

Back to San Antonio and the Riverwalk for dinner.  A very late dinner for us - 9pm!!!!!  Decided to go to Landry's Seafood place for a light dinner.  Casey had Crawfish Etouffe and I had a Greek Salad with Shrimp!  Super yummy!

And we had a great view from our table :

Woke up on Tuesday morning nice and early.  Casey went to the Alamo for a re-enactment and I went for a run along the river.  After breakfast, we walked over to La Villita - a little artsy village.

We then headed to the Pearl Brewery District (very disappointing) before heading out to Fredericksburg.  The town itself was very neat and it had a real German influence.  We stopped at a couple of places in town before lunch.

Lunch was at the Silver Creek Bar and Grill!  Both of us had Mahi Mahi.  Casey's was a sandwich, mine a salad!

Apparently it is the 2nd largest wine area in the US (behind Napa/Sonoma).  After seeing it, we can't believe this is true.  We stopped at about 5 places.  Wines were ok.  Prince Edward County Wines are WAY better!!!!!!

Back to San Antonio for another dinner.  Went to Pat O'Brien's because it had blackened catfish - which Casey had been craving since we got to New Orleans.  It was really good.  I got a shrimp salad (yes again!) with a cajun remoulade sauce on the side.  It went really well with Casey's veggies!!!!

So that is all she wrote for San Antonio!!!!  We are thinking that we will head to Roswell, New Mexico tomorrow and Flagstaff, Arizona on Thursday.  Two long days of driving, but then a couple of nice days will await - at the Grand Canyon and then off to Las Vegas!!!!!  The weather looks COLD, but sunny for the next few days.  I might have to wear socks!!!!  I HATE wearing socks.  But I can handle it for a few days because after this, we are heading to California!  Probably Salinas and Monteray!!!!!!  Perhaps we will visit a winery or 2????!!!!!

Enjoy!
