Our drive from Flagstaff, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada started with a quick drive down Historic Route 66!
We then drove towards Vegas along I40. What beautiful scenery! Rolling hills, mountains in the distance, lots of colours!!!!!
After a few short hours, we were in Nevada.
First stop - The Hoover Dam. What an absolutely massive structure!
Once we got to Vegas, we checked into our accommodations for the next few nights. Hooters Casino Resort!!!!!! I know. But, it is actually not too bad. A bit dated, but a fantastic deal!
Our room was on the 17th floor with a very nice view of the mountains in the distance and overlooking the pool - where Casey spent some time relaxing!!!!
I joined him at the pool after my run with a big mug of coffee (in a Hooters Cup)!
I found the Strip to be very crowded. Lots of people wandering around with huge drinks. Sort of like Bourbon Street in New Orleans, but a lot more civilized. With the exception of the people trying to hand out little cards for "girls, girls, girls". The size of the buildings and casinos really surprised me. I knew they were big, but WOW! Until you see them in person, you really can't appreciate it.
And then off to the World Carnival Buffet at the Rio for dinner. We had to wait in line for almost an hour! It was good. Not great. But we both ate way too much. I can't remember the last time I ate so much. UGH!
Not too much gambling yet. We will probably do a bit tonight after dinner. I think it is more fun watching people.
Overall - Vegas is interesting. Probably a place I won't come back to though.
Off to Bakersfield, California tomorrow and then Monteray on Wednesday. From there, we will head up the coast. Not exactly sure where to though. We'll see where the wind takes us!
Enjoy!
