New Orleans

What a crazy city!  We have seen, done and eaten so much.  Got to our B & B around noon on March 1st.  Our host greeted us at the door and we have experienced the hospitality of this city ever since.  Phillip gave us a half hour overview of what to see/do while we are here and then showed us our room.  We are at the Royal Street Courtyard B&B.  It is fantastic.  A 150 year old home with 14 foot ceilings.  Check out www.http://royalstcourtyard.com/default.aspx for pics (we are in room 10).  Time to fill our bellies!  Went to a place called the Praline Cafe.  Yummy!
Casey had a shrimp po boy and I had Gumbo Zaire - with warm cornbread to start!
Washed down with Abita beer (seems to be the local favourite here)

Off to explore the city.  The architecture is fantastic here.  Balconies are amazing.  Sidewalks such though!  We walked about 10km, zigzagging through the streets.  Here are some random shots of our first day walking :

Obviously very tired and thirsty.  Headed to Lafitte's Blacksmith - the oldest continuously operated pub in the US - for their house drink, the Hurricane.  It was ok, we were thirsty, but probably won't get it again.

Then back to our B&B to relax before dinner.  We have a great balcony outside our room where we are able to enjoy a drink (or 2) before dinner.

We didn't bring the camera out for dinner.  Decided to walk around a bit and found a great place on Frenchman Street called The Three Muses.  Had some great wine and tapas and listened to some live Jazz - more ragtime type music.  But, it was great.  We then headed to Bourbon Street.  CRAZY!  I don't understand it at all.  People walking around the street, drinks in hand, from one bar to another.  Bar staff trying to get people in their places.  LOTS of drunk people all over the place.  I much preferred the sanity of Frenchman Street.  Pics of Bourbon Street will come soon!

Very late night (for us, anyway).  In bed after midnight.  Will get up and do it all again tomorrow!

Enjoy!
