A pretty relaxing week. Sat by the pool and read most of the week. I've read 5 books since I've been here!!!!!!
Thought we better do something other than sit by the pool on Saturday. So..... What to do on a partly sunny day in Florida??? Go to the Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training, of course! How should we get there? By bike! Ok, not the best idea ever, but what the heck. We decided to rent bikes on Saturday and make the 20 mile trek up to Dunedin to see the Blue Jays practice.
Well, it seeded like a good idea at the time. But, 20 miles is a lot longer than it seems when you haven't been on a bike in over a year (for Casey)! It took a long time to get there, but it was a really nice ride. I didn't take any pictures of the journey there though:( We took The Pinellas Trail. This is a great trail where only walkers, runners, and bicycles are allowed. No cars! So, it was a great, safe way to get there. We saw some beautiful houses, some not - so beautiful houses, trailer parks, orange trees, grapefruit trees.....
By the time we got to Dunedin, the practice was pretty much over:( So, we went for lunch at the Dunedin Smokehouse. Great afternoon to sit on a patio. I've discovered a beer that I actually like - Dunedin Brewery Apricot ale. Well, not sure if I really liked it or if I was just really thirsty! Either way, we had a couple pints and lunch to fuel us up for the journey home. Downtown Dunedin is a hopping place on a Saturday. They have a cool market with all kinds of things to buy - from cheese, to wine, to fresh produce!
We didn't buy anything though....too hard to get it back to the condo with our bikes! The ride home was long! But, at least we had the wind at our back this time. Did a little bit of a different route on the way home so that we could drive by the gulf a bit more. Only 1 big bridge to cross, but the views from the top of it were great!
Finally made it back to the bike rental place. Can you say thirsty????? Headed down to Sloppy Joe's (again) for happy hour and views of the beach. There was another wedding happening on the beach. We saw one last week when we were at Sloppy Joe's as well. Seems like the thing to do on a Saturday! Once we were re-hydrated, we went up the road to Crabby Bill's for some dinner. Had the best Mahi Mahi Taco's!
Two tired little bikers headed home! We were even too tired to open up more wine when we got back to the condo!!!!!!! Seriously! So, to bed we went.
Today is a rainy, cool day. Probably going to try to get in the Oscar mood by going to see The Descendents this afternoon.
Can't believe we leave on Wednesday!!!!!! Mixed feelings about leaving as it's the end of our idyllic Florida holiday. BUT, starting Wednesday morning, the adventures of the US road trip continue. First stop - The Big Easy!
Will update you with New Orleans photos/stories soon!
